Alan Townsend has over 30 years experience in the healthcare industry, working as an independent consultant for one and a half years prior to the formation of FRG, and over thirteen years as a financial officer in non-profit healthcare systems. His areas of expertise include capital planning, long-range strategic financial planning, budgeting, financial feasibility studies, business process redesign planning, productivity analysis, and financial information systems.

Consulting Experience

Mr. Townsend worked as an independent consultant associated with MJN Consulting beginning in July 1998. In January 2000, Mr. Townsend became a Partner in FRG. Consulting engagements have included Interim CFO of Baylor Medical Center at Garland; Interim CFO for Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana, Texas; Interim CFO for JPS Health Network for five months; Interim VP of Finance for Valley Baptist Health System for over two years; and Interim CFO for Baptist St. Anthony Health System in Amarillo, Texas.

His two most recent positions were as Interim CFO at St. Joseph Health System in Bryan, Texas, followed by Interim CFO at East Jefferson General Hospital in New Orleans. Prior to those, he was the Interim CFO for Norman Regional Health System in Oklahoma where he led a turnaround project increasing cash collections by $3M per month and reducing expenses by $6.9M over a 5-month period and projected $19M in expense reductions for the following fiscal year. Currently, Mr. Townsend is responsible for FRG’s Resource Service Center that provides GL/AP and other financial services support for hospitals – one of which is Medical Center Health System, part of the Ector County Hospital District in Odessa, Texas.

Industry Experience

Prior to going into consulting, Mr. Townsend served as a financial officer for over thirteen years for Baylor Health Care System in Dallas, Texas. His responsibilities included directing the capital and operating budget processes for the System, financial feasibility studies, financial support for long-range strategic planning, financial support for bond issuances, business process redesign, financial analysis support, and support of treasury functions. Prior to becoming a financial officer at Baylor, Mr. Townsend also served in various support staff positions for over three years including interim Chief Financial Officer at Baylor Medical Centers at Waxahachie and Grapevine.

Prior to joining Baylor, Mr. Townsend worked for Methodist Health Systems in Memphis, Tennessee, in various financial reporting and budgeting positions.
